The capital city of Suriname, Paramaribo is a vibrant, multicultural UNESCO World Heritage city situated along the banks of the Suriname River, just 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean. The Port of Paramaribo and the nearby deep-water facilities at Paranam already handle bauxite, alumina, timber and container traffic. With the recent discovery of substantial offshore oil and gas reserves in the Guyana-Suriname Basin – among the largest finds of the past decade – the country is rapidly positioning itself as the next major energy hub in the western hemisphere.

The offshore discoveries by TotalEnergies, APA Corporation and partners have triggered multibillion-dollar investments in FPSOs, supply vessels, drilling rigs and logistics bases. This unprecedented growth creates an urgent and sustained need for qualified Surinamese seafarers and maritime professionals – both at sea and ashore.
While the country’s maritime education infrastructure is still developing, Suriname benefits from motivated students, government commitment to sector expansion, and the possibility of fast-track accreditation of new training programmes under STCW standards.
ORCA Crew Services Suriname – Paramaribo Office
From our new office in central Paramaribo, ORCA Crew Services is actively contributing to the professionalisation and expansion of the Surinamese maritime workforce.
Our objectives and services include:
- Local employment and full national compliance – Contracts under Surinamese labour law, transparent payroll in SRD or USD, and correct contributions to local social security systems.
- Structured training and cadet programmes – Partnerships with local educational institutions and international maritime academies to develop accredited deck, engine and hospitality courses tailored to Suriname’s needs.
- Scholarship and sponsorship initiatives – Targeted support for high-potential Surinamese students to obtain internationally recognised STCW certification abroad, with guaranteed employment upon return.
- Crew management for offshore and merchant vessels – Supply of trained Surinamese officers and ratings to FPSOs, PSVs, drillships, tankers and support vessels operating in Block 58 and surrounding areas.
- Knowledge transfer and capacity building – Collaboration with the Maritime Authority Suriname (MAS) and industry stakeholders to establish modern training centres and examination facilities in Paramaribo.
